Paper Play 24

As promised, here’s my BFF’s birthday card; her birthday is Friday. I don’t know if she’ll get it on her birthday but I wished her a belated, happy one anyways.

Background

Color Scheme

I was inspired by a boutinnière I saw on Pinterest. I used Distress Oxides Aged Mahagony, Bundled Sage, Chipped Sapphire, and Tattered Rose.

I did a dip and dye where each ink pad was smooshed onto plastic wrap, spritzed with water, and then the cardstock (cream) was dipped into colors in places. I dipped two to three times, drying the piece inbetween. After the last dip, I spritzed the cardstock again to oxidize the colors more and dried it one last time.

Texture

I stamped Inkadinkado DH Script Background onto the coffee filter and embossed it in Stampin Up gold. I felt the whiteness of the coffee filter was too white so I colored it with Tattered Rose. After brushing some collage medium diagonally onto the background I scrunched up and pressed down the filter. This is my favorite element of the card.

3-D Elements

Flowers

I used Hero Arts Hydrangea Rubber Stamp and Stampin Up’s Petite Petals to stamp in the color scheme. Each was hand cut out and then mounted with foam squares or circles.

Sentiment

The sentiment is from the Hampton Art Birthday set. I colored the rectangle in Tattered Rose. I used the Tim Holtz Speckles stencil with Aged Mahogany and Bundled Sage. I then stamped the sentiment in Chipped Sapphire. This piece was mounted with foam squares.

And that’s it folks. I was kind of feeling iffy about this design when I first was imagining and playing around with the placement of pieces, but now I’m very pleased with it. The teen said it was pretty; her opinion helped. I really like the presence of the navy blue in the palette because it gives the design a mature feel. The rest of the colors are feminine and give a dreamy and unique vibe. I know Court will like her card; it’s way better than last year’s when I had experimented with the shaker technique.

I’m off to grab something to eat; I made the Costco run this morning before I took the teen to math. We are well stocked for the holiday week. TTYS.

  1. I love this card. I just smile every time I see one of your creations. There’s so much to look at and try to figure out what you did before I read your explanations. 🙂
