It’s Monday! What are you reading?

I’m linking up with It’s Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Kathryn of The Book Date later on today. Kathryn took over this weekly, Monday meme from Shelia of Book Journey who had taken it over from J Kayne Book Blog. This meme is not just about adult books either. If you read picture and chapter books, juvenile fiction, or even YA, they count as well. Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee of Unleashing Readers give this Monday, book post link up a kid-focus.

The Dillio

Oh boy did the week go by fast. The tween was gone checking out tide pools and hiking at night with classmates. The husband was on a business trip and had to reroute flying home Thursday night due to delays. It was just the teen and I. We had kitten duty, we had take out every evening, and we rented the Descendants movies while the kittens ran around.

By Thursday night I was feeling off; could have been the weather and fatigue. I skipped the workout Friday morning and after hydrating and eating I took a two hour nap. I didn’t attend Craft Night and took a bout of meds. I thankfully felt better by Saturday afternoon. That evening I met up with Nin and El in San Mateo downtown where we caught up and dined on prime rib.

Yesterday I was cross stitching away, still binging on The Great British Baking Show – finished season four. I’ve researched for an ergonomic, hoop option and ordered something on Prime; it should come today. I’ll let you know in another post how the LED magnifying light is working for me as well as what I recently ordered.

“Libraries were a solace in the Depression. They were warm and dry and useful and free; they provided a place for people to be together in a desolate time. You could feel prosperous at the library. There was so much there, such an abundance, when everything else felt scant and ravaged, and you could take any of it home for free. Or you could just sit at a reading table and take it all in.”
― Susan Orlean, The Library Book

The Job (Fox and O’Hare #3) by Janet Evanovich

Kindle version

I wanted something light and fun to read so I somehow thought of this series. Enjoyable and entertaining cons of art and treasure. I loved the father-daughter conversation between Kate and her retired military dad:

“Besides, there’s nobody who is going to watch your back better than me. You know that.”

“That’s why I’m here.”

“And that’s why I’m going to be there with you, wherever there is, any time you ask and as long as I’m able,” he said. “It’s what fathers do.”

“Most fathers don’t show up with hand grenades and bowie knives.”

“They should be ashamed of themselves,” Jake said. (at 29% of the book)

The story was always on the move. You got bad guys, guns, the usual posh settings, and the high class food. Three stars.

The Shadowglass (The Bone Witch #3) by Rin Chupeco

Hardcover

Been some time since I read the second book so I only faintly remembered what had happened. Part of me felt I should reread the first, two books but I was too lazy to and wasn’t in the mood. So I kind of plowed through this installment. It was good but not as exciting as first two books. Each chapter starts with what had happened already and then goes into what lead up to it. The ending was okay for me. It was a bit reminescent of another series that I was hooked on until how the last book ended. Dunno. I may like it more after a reread but I’m in no rush to and am moving on. Three stars.

After today there’ll be seven more days of school. The dames and I are ready for school to be over. This Friday I’m working as photographer for the sixth grade dance; I only said I’d help because my neighbor asked. I made sure I had nothing else to do this weekend because I will be exhausted dealing with 11/12 year olds.

Okay, need to get ready for the Costco run. Have a good week. Happy reading to you. TTYS.

    1. Not too long to go before you & your ladies are on break! Good luck with the photography duty. I have chaperone duty for the 8th grade dance & might have to bring some earplugs 🙂
Thanks for the sweet comments on my recent post. The ribbing on my shortie socks hit slightly above the ankles which is how I like to wear them.

  1. Right now I’m reading blogs! 🙂 Actually I just downloaded an e-pub version of “The Homesteader’s Herbal Companion”. It’s a trial version, I want to see if I like it then I’ll order the real one. I’m trying to learn about medicinal and tonic herbs. I really think we rely way too much on “modern medicine” for every little ailment and I want to go back to the old school way of keeping healthy and healing ailments. I don’t have the room now, but when I buy the place (hopefully next spring!!) 🙂 then I’m going to make a medicinal herb garden and start making my own remedies, tinctures and poultices! Fun stuff!!! I’ve been watching a lot of those “found footage” movies lately, they freak me out lol! 🙂
