Paper 21 Play

Afternoon. What have you been up to today? Here in the States it’s Memorial Day weekend. I finally have a weekend of rest where I get to sleep in and…well back that up because I was woken up at 6:48am by hungry, mewing kittens that can get pretty loud, but I went back to sleep for two hours which was nice. I’m currently awaiting a delivery.

This is my latest card that traveled all the way to Switzerland in five days. Hoo-rah for efficient mail service!

Texture

One thing I loved about this card is the texture I got. I was inspired by a card on Pinterest (I cannot find it again) that had layers where the one underneath showed through a torn vee of the top layer.

This top layer I created from a coffee filter that was torn into crumpled up pieces and glued down via Distress Collage Medium while scrunching it up in places. It was also lightly colored with Distress Oxides Antique Linen and Walnut Stain. I background stamped the script from Tim Holtz Stamper’s Anonymous Reflections.

Bottom Layer

I blended the above-mentioned Oxides onto cream-colored, cardstock. Water was spritzed to get the colors to oxide together and then I stamped Hero Arts Map of American onto it in Distress Oxide Black Soot. I spritzed again and dried the piece before adding the texture of the coffee filter.

Embellishments

  • The roses are from the Hampton Art Clear Layer Roses set. I used Distress Oxides Festive Berries, Fired Brick, Aged Mahogany, Lucky Clover, and Pine Needles.
  • The butterfly is from Tim Holtz Stamper’s Anonymous Butterflight; it’s stamped in Lucky Clover.
  • I wound some black and white twine for some contrast under the roses and stuck in the sentiment from Stampin Up! Party with Cake.

I have to be honest here and say I felt slightly iffy about these parts. I wanted the flowers to be more 3-D. I sprayed Imagine Crafts Sheer Shimmer Spritz onto them for some shine. I thought about making them layers of punched out paper but I worried about them being smashed in the mail. And I also didn’t want to introduce another color into the palette which is why the butterfly is green. It works but at the same time it feels a bit awkward.

In times like these is when I wish I had die cuts in my stash for added dimension. I also wish for more colors of embossing powder. I guess I’ll have to start building up these supplies next. Doh, just realized I could have embossed the butterfly in gold!

Here’s what the overall card looks like:

Despite these perfectionist misgivings. the recipient did love her card. She posted on my FB wall a pic of it and expressed how much she liked it. It had arrived exactly on her birthday.

Okay, that’s all I got for today. I have caught up on WordPress blogs today. Speaking of WP, they have done away with the spelling and grammar checks so pls excuse any errors even I do try to dilligently proofread my posts a few times. Tomorrow I’ll start tackling Blogger and Typepad blogs. I’m off to make tea and have a snack. Have a good weekend and TTYS.
