It’s Monday! What are you reading?

I’m linking up with It’s Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Kathryn of The Book Date later on today. Kathryn took over this weekly, Monday meme from Shelia of Book Journey who had taken it over from J Kayne Book Blog. This meme is not just about adult books either. If you read picture and chapter books, juvenile fiction, or even YA, they count as well. Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee of Unleashing Readers give this Monday, book post link up a kid-focus.

The Dillio

And we are back to the grind.  Spring break is over. The girls and I stayed local as the husband was gone for half of last week on business. I tried to do a little something each day so we’d get out of the house. I’ll give you a quick overview of our week tomorrow.

Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) by Sarah J. Maas

Kindle version

When I first learned this sixth book was all about Chaol, I have to admit I was disappointed. However, where he went and who he dealt with was actually interesting and kept me reading. I loved the land of Antica and its chessboard politics among its own royalty. I thought the group of Torre healers a great addition to the original cast of characters. I liked Chaol’s journey of healing, the magic involved besides the mental and physical aspects. I found the animals of Antica’s army highly fascinating; they made me think of Buckbeak. From beginning to end I was engrossed in this installment. Four stars.

Black Arts, Tarts & Gyspy Carts (Spells Caramels #2) by Erin Johnson

Kindle version

I started this book two and a half weeks ago. My attention had waned on it because I’ve been listening to cozy mysteries on Overdrive. At one point I wasn’t sure I was going to read it now and was thinking of shelving it for later reading. There is a contrast in tone from this series of books which is more sugary, fun reading than from the Magical Bakery Mysteries which have real life settings in a serious tone.

However, once I got halfway my mood toward this book changed. I found the necromancy content interesting and liked where it led once the action picked up. I did start to feel iffy about the relationship and the dilemma of Imogen and who she’s attracted to, a bit of eye roller for me. It kept flashing in my mind, watch, I bet in a book later down the line, she’s acutally going to be a princess by birth, etc. Who ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ knows? I will continue the series but am not in a rush to. Three stars.

Agatha Raisin and the Walkers of Dembley (Agatha Raisin, #4) by M.C. Beaton

Audiobook

This book started off okay until it got more involved in the mystery. I thought it was fun how James had more involvement in this one. And oh boy, what a cast of characters those Walkers of Dembley were. The language and types of relationships going on, LOL. I don’t know if I’ll continue this series. I kind of had it with Agatha at this point. Three stars.

The Iron Flower (The Black Witch Chronicles, #2) by Laurie Forest

Kindle version

Never disappointed with this series. Sucked me right in from page one. This installment was really like a roller coaster because of its ups and downs. There’s innocence and joy among the main cast of characters. Then there’s darkness as tensions mount during feverent rhetoric that fans hate against other races of beings. It hits me sometimes how these are just teenaged characters who are immersed in a world they disagree with and in a world that brings harsh realities. I loved how this book ended. I can’t wait for the fourth installment! Four stars.

I will slowly catch up with you all this week and I will be updating you on my WIP’s as well. Have a good Monday. Happy reading to you and thanks for poppin in today. TTYS.

  1. I really enjoy the M.C. Beaton books. Agatha Raisin drives me bonkers but at the same time I can’t help but love her even when I want to shake her. A stay at home break is sometimes the best kind. We did last year but ended up going out of town this year and I really wish we had stayed home. I love listening to cozies on audio and have been in a serious cozy mood lately.
