It’s Monday! What are you reading?

I’m linking up with It’s Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Kathryn of The Book Date later on today. Kathryn took over this weekly, Monday meme from Shelia of Book Journey who had taken it over from J Kayne Book Blog. This meme is not just about adult books either. If you read picture and chapter books, juvenile fiction, or even YA, they count as well. Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee of Unleashing Readers give this Monday, book post link up a kid-focus.

The Dillio

Thank you again for all of your positive, supportive thoughts for my tween and me. We saw the specialist today and he along with the facility, staff, and the resident get a thumbs up from me. All I ask for is time to address my concerns and empathy besides having the appropriate, bedside manner with my kid. All of these were met and made my stress level go down, having a positive experience.

How was your weekend? Our ohana has been binge watching The Office series; we may have finished season five yesterday. Our Christmas tree shelters many, brightly wrapped gifts, making me feel I’m almost ahead of holiday preparation. A stack of addressed envelopes sit on our dining room table as I await the delivery of our new, address stamp today. Earlier this afternoon I cut apart the school pictures of the keiki and labeled each one for special relatives. Before I left for pick up I was able to order another gift online, checking off the tenth gift.

“Reading is my favourite occupation, when I have leisure for it and books to read.”
― Anne Brontë, Agnes Grey

Did you finish a good book this week? I did. I have been binge reading Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series. Heir of Fire is the third installment.

I feel like from what I have read so far, this series is like a small game board where each step represents a phase of Celaena’s life. This book is where she painfully makes steps back to her inner origins and it was quite a journey as magic was all out in the open.

The action in this read was slightly different than the second book as it split between two locations and was not as bloodthirsty as the last book:

  1. It centered more around Celaena’s breaking through the buried magic within herself and you are given glimpses into the dangerous world of magical creatures.
  2. At the same time the book connects over back to the Ardalan Kingdom, keeping you up-to-date on what’s going on there without her.

In addition to plots being spun, there is character development of Celaena, Dorian, and Chaol. Each learn good things and flaws about him/herself. Celaena especially starts to grow up and mature toward whom everybody wishes for her to be.

And don’t you think it’s all unicorns and rainbows at the end. The last couple of pages made me jump back in surprise. Just when you thought a nefarious character couldn’t sink any lower…

Three stars. I’m currently reading the fourth installment and looking forward to digging in deeper as her world gets more complicated with more characters from her past.

On Deck

  1. A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic) by V.E. Schwab
  2. Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4) by Sarah J. Maas

The dryer’s timer has gone off. Off to take care of laundry. Enjoy the rest of your Monday. Happy reading to you. TTYS.

  4. I’m glad you’re pleased with the specialist! That makes everything so much better. I’m so impressed with how ready you are for Christmas. I’m not even close but I do have an Amazon cart filled and plan on doing a massive shop tomorrow so hopefully that’ll get me close! I’ve yet to read Sarah J Maas but I’ve heard good things. I started listening to a Nora Roberts book and am enjoying it so much I ended up picking up a print book and going on a bit of a binge. Have a great week!

  5. so glad you liked the doctor and facility! I love my RA doctor (who is retiring….sniff) and I trust him completely. I’m reading Washington’s biography which is really good! Still slowly reading a Gamache mystery and a cozy mystery both captivating, just not enough time in the day to read all three

  6. That’s great about the specialist! Taking the time to listen to patients is such an important part of health care and one that I try to teach to my interns. I hate it when a doctor makes you feel rushed and their manners are so impersonal.
